Memfish coming soon! |
|
A reason to be happy about the fish scene in Memphis! I have seen the future and it is good. Memfish is scheduled for a grand opening October 13, with a soft opening October 2. It is in the little strip mall near the intersection of Quince and Yorkshire in the corner over near the BBQ place. I stopped by today, the door wasn't locked, so I went in and introduced myself. The place looks nice and it isn't ready for opening yet! They will have about 1/2 fresh and 1/2 salt stuff. They will carry plants, substrates, CO2 stuff, UV sterilizers, all sorts of stuff we haven't been able to buy locally. I am really excited about this place. No, I have no connection to them, and I don't benefit in any way if you shop there. They have quarantine tanks where they will quarantine stock for a minimum of 7 days. It really looks like they are doing this right, and Memphis could sure use another fish store that carried stuff other than the beginner stuff.

D'oh... So I finally headed down there to check the place out and pick up an item or two. Unfortunately, I learned that they're closed on Mondays. Here's their hours from the door though:
Monday -- Closed
Tuesday - Saturday -- 10 - 6
Sunday -- 12 - 5

I finally visited the store today. This place is coming along NICE! They still have some parts in the works, including a huge reef tank coming soon, but what's already present is really great! I chatted with the Manager who was there and it turns out he's also the founder of the West TN Marine and Reef Aquarium Club.
So, here's a quick inventory of what I saw as notable during my lunch-time browse:
-high-end cannister filter supplies
-more saltwater fish and corals than any other mixed fw/sw store in memphis
-healthy looking tanks... I saw no dead creatures or anything looking stressed
-lovely corals on display individually
-RO and Saltwater available on taps
-lots of live rock
-lots more that I don't recall right now

I got a chance to get out east earlier this week to visit Memfish and I was very impressed! I had no idea this store was around until I read about it here.

Thank you so much for the new post! I am checking it out tomorrow. When I set up my tank, I looked for fish stores around here. Now I am looking for marine dealers. (I think I'm in love with Kermit's Reef!)
